Three Oaks is a one square mile village in Three Oaks Township within Berrien County, Michigan that is about 2 miles from the Indiana border along US 12. The village sits in Harbor Country within the southwest corner of Michigan, just 5 miles from Lake Michigan. Three Oaks is a farming area that holds farmers markets ( lots of organic produce) on Saturdays that brings thousands of visitors into the area from around Harbor Country and South Bend. Real estate in this country area has everything from getaway cottages, permanent homes with varying prices and horse farms. Both River Valley School District and Three Oaks Elementary School cover the area.The area is a favorite with families working in New Buffalo, South Bend, In and Chicago Il.
Three Oaks is home to Journeyman Distillery, one of Michigan’s largest distilleries. Three Oaks is also the arts and cultural center of Harbor Country,Nicknamed “Cultural Center of Harbor Country” for its shops, galleries and theaters with live performances at the famous Acorn Theater and films showing regularly in Three Oaks’ vintage Vickers Theater. Three Oaks main street was featured in the 1989 movie “Prancer”.
The businesses in the community have an event “Experience Three Oaks Town Walk” during the summer to promote the downtown area. Three Oaks is host to an annual biking event called “Apple Cider Century” that brings more than 5000 cyclist to enjoy 100 miles of Harbor Country trails. The Dewey Cannon Trading Company is the hub for biking information. The store has tourist information, maps, souvenirs and gift items. All 16 self-guided Backroads Bikeway trails start and finish here. They are said to have the cleanest public bathrooms around. Three Oaks has a Flag Day celebration every June that is known throughout Michigan.
